The Crandall Building, originally called the McCornick Building, was completed in 1892 under the direction of William S. McCornick, a notable banker and entrepreneur of the era. Designed by the Omaha-based architectural firm Mendelssohn, Fisher, and Lawrie, and constructed by William Pinney, it was celebrated as Salt Lake City’s first skyscraper. Standing seven stories tall, it marked a significant milestone in the city’s growth and prosperity.
In 1955, the Building transitioned to new ownership when the Crandall Family acquired it. Under their stewardship, the Building has been meticulously maintained and thoughtfully updated, ensuring its historic character remains intact. Today, the Crandall Building is a cherished symbol of Salt Lake City’s architectural heritage and a lasting reminder of the visionary leadership that has shaped its skyline.
